APPG Objectives

The objective of the All Party Parliamentary Group is: -

"To raise awareness of the scale and effects of human trafficking into the UK and the EU; and to seek solutions to reduce supply and demand; and to improve welfare provisions for victims."

The Group aims to hold the Government to account, to ensure better training for the police, and greater awareness for those involved with border protection.  It is committed, above all, to ensuring victims of trafficking are given proper help, consistent with the Council of Europe Convention on Action Against Trafficking in Human Beings.

A description of the European Initiative is given by former Chairman, Anthony Steen"In a bid to respond to the year on year increase in human trafficking (now estimated at 100,000 victims annually in the EU), our Group has launched an initiative to establish a pan-European network of national parliamentarians. The idea is that each parliamentary group, whilst operating separately and with its own agenda, would have the same compelling objective to ensure governments in all EU countries do more to tackle the growing human trafficking phenomenon."

On 23rd July 2010, the newly elected Chairman, Peter Bone MP, reiterated the Group's objectives: "We aim to raise awareness of the extent that human trafficking still exists in the 21st century. By doing this I hope to push for practical solutions. I would also like to get other European Parliaments to take concerned action".
