ECPAT and The Body Shop have launched a global petition as part of their three-year campaign to stop child trafficking. As part of the UK campaign, ECPAT UK is calling on the Government to provide greater care and protection for child victims of trafficking.
ECPAT UK is asking people to sign the petition online or in any of The Body Shop stores across the UK. The petition specifically calls on the Government to develop a system of guardianship for children who have been trafficked. A system of guardianship would mean that every child victim of trafficking would have: -
· someone with parental responsibility to care for and support them and take decisions based on their best interests;
· someone to ensure they receive the educational, medical, practical and legal support they need to help rebuild their lives.
A system of guardianship is a requirement of the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings, and is a key recommendation of the UK Anti-Trafficking Monitoring Group, made up of nine leading charities, including ECPAT UK and UNICEF UK.
You can sign the petition online and read more about the campaign at http://www.ecpat.org.uk/body_shop_campaign.html
